Introduction

La Ronge, the Capital of Northern Saskatchewan. The Town of La Ronge is a growing community located near the centre of the Saskatchewan. With diversity in resource development including forestry, mining, tourism and natural food products it is no wonder that this community is recognized as the service centre for the northern part of the Province. La Ronge is situated 237 km north of Prince Albert on an all-weather paved highway. The Town of La Ronge borders along the scenic shorelines of the lake known as Lac La Ronge.

Location

LocationAstride two great eco- regions the La Ronge area sits between the Precambrian Shield to the north and the Great Plains to the south. The bedrock and intervening muskeg exert strong influence on the community. Bedrock outcrops become evident as one approaches La Ronge from the south. La Ronge is located within a vast, thinly populated area of forest and lakes. Abundant natural resources exist which have been developed only to a limited extent. The region awaits further development of mineral, tourism, forestry and other resources. The community is located at longitude 55º 9' north and latitude 105º 15' west. The elevation of the town is 375 meters (1,195 feet) above sea level.
