Snow Removal and Street Clearing Policy

1. The following order of preference will normally be used for snow clearing of streets unless otherwise determined by the Supervisor of Public Works:

- La Ronge Avenue
- Boardman Street
- Backlund Street
- Hildebrand Drive
- School Avenue / East Crescent
- Studer Street
- Industrial Park
- Riese Drive / Dalby Crescent
- Remaining Residential Streets

2. The following order of preference will normally be used for snow removal once the major streets have been cleared unless otherwise determined by the Supervisor of Public Works:

- La Ronge Avenue
- Boardman Street
- Backlund Street
- Hildebrand Drive
- School Avenue / East Crescent
- Studer Street
- Industrial Park
- Riese Drive / Dalby Crescent
- Remaining Residential Streets

3. Snow gates are used when street ploughing to assist businesses and residents to keep their driveways clear; however, the Town does not guarantee to keep driveways clear.

4. Private driveways are snow gated if possible during ploughing.

5. Heavy snow fall may result in overspill from the gate causing snow ridges to block the driveway. The Town is not equipped to clear the ridges and will not respond to requests by property owners to clear their driveway.

6. Sidewalks will be treated in the same order of preference as for streets.

7. Frequency of sanding and salting is determined by the Supervisor of Public Works.  Phone calls received for slippery streets and intersections to be radioed or phoned to Supervisor of Public Works.

8. Any person cleaning a public sidewalk is permitted to place the snow in the gutter. This section does not authorize any person to place snow on the sidewalk or the travelled portion of the street.

9. Residents and businesses are prohibited from placing snow removed from private driveways and sidewalks onto the public sidewalks or streets unless authorized by the Superintendent of Public Works. The Town will charge the property owner and/ or the contractor for any snow removal off Town property if prior permission has not been obtained.
